Food is a necessity. We need it to survive. Yet not everyone has the same access to this most basic of needs.

This is the idea at the heart of Food for Thought, a new community group art exhibition at The Table Art Gallery & Hub in Huntsville. Bringing together artists and perspectives from across the community, the exhibition invites us to consider the many ways food shapes our lives—and what it means when access to food is not equal.

Food for Thought at The Table Art Gallery & Hub

Join us for the opening reception of Food For Thought - A community Group Art Exhibition of over 20 local artists

As we enter the week before Thanksgiving, we invite you to experience Food for Thought, a special community art exhibition bringing together over 20 local artists at The Table Art Gallery & Hub.

Through a rich variety of artistic perspectives, this thought-provoking exhibition explores the many ways food shapes our lives—from nourishment and cherished memories to community, sustainability and our relationship with the natural world. At its heart, Food for Thought invites us to pause, reflect and spark meaningful conversations about food, gratitude and the reality that not everyone has equal access to this basic human necessity.

This Thanksgiving season, we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the power of art to bring people together, open hearts and inspire conversation.

Opening Reception
Wednesday, October 7 | 5–8PM
The Table Art Gallery & Hub

As a valued supporter of The Table, you are part of the community that makes this work possible. We would love to welcome you, celebrate our local artists together, and share in the conversations this exhibition inspires.

Can't make the opening? The exhibition runs through October 21. Visit us Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

FACE TO FACE — Opening Reception

Join us at The Table Art Gallery & Hub for the opening reception of FACE TO FACE, featuring the powerful portraits of Marinus (Mark) Boekelman.

Now 83, Mark brings a lifetime of global perspective to his work. Originally from Amsterdam, he came to Canada in 1963 and later discovered painting in South Korea. His expressionist portraits are deeply inspired by Alice Neel’s “people first” philosophy and the German Expressionists of the 1920s.

This special exhibition features 46 portraits of Table guests, Men’s Hostel residents and volunteers, many painted on site at The Table over more than a decade.

These are not simply portraits—they are stories of people who deserve to be seen, heard and recognized.

Come FACE TO FACE with the people behind the stories.

The Table Art Gallery & Hub - 12 Cann Street, Huntsville

We invite you to join us, meet Mark, experience the exhibition and celebrate the people who make up our community.

We cannot look away. We need to see one another.

Artist Marinus (Mark) Boekelman

The FACE to FACE exhibition features forty six portraits of Men’s hostel patrons, Table Food Bank guests, and Volunteers from the Table Soup Kitchen Foundation. The portraits were mainly painted on site at the Table for over a decade. Mark portraits are not “Pretty pictures.” Instead of presenting subjects that are “sitting pretty” these works capture the vulnerability of marginalized individuals.

The portraits of the Volunteers is a small representation of the numerous people who dedicate countless hours of time and energy to make a difference in the lives of the people of Huntsville who need it most. They should be applauded.

We hope you enjoy the exhibition.
